Writing a Video Production Brief

A video production brief contains an outline of the messages that you wish to convey in your video, and how it will be used by your organisation.

A one or two page summary of your requirements is usually enough to get started.

Target audience, key messages, and purpose of the video should all be addressed in your brief.

Some of the questions you may wish to consider, and which we will require clarification on include:

  • What is the purpose of your video- is it for a viral campaign, a video for your website or a DVD production?
  • What visual and graphical elements do you want to show, for example, animated logos, or demonstrations?
  • At which locations would you like filming to take place?
  • How long would you like the film to last, and will a shorter version be required?
  • Is the production a one off, or part of an on-going series?
  • Will a professional presenter or voice over artist be required?
  • Will any independent experts or staff be interviewed as part of the production?
  • Will scripts need to be written, and will you require assistance with this?
  • What is your project deadline?
  • How much do you have budgeted to spend on your video?
  • Do you have any existing footage you would like us to include/ re edit into your production?
  • Are permissions to film, people or specific locations, required before we can proceed? Who will be responsible for dealing with this?
  • How soon would you like us to get started?
